Q. What are some of the bacteria and microbes that Crypton® Protects against?
A. Prohibits growth of molds like Aspergillus Niger and bacteria, such as Staphylococcus Aureus. The manufacturing process includes chemistry that prohibit bacteria and mold from spreading.
Q. Is there vinyl in Crypton®?
A. No! There are no plasticizers, and manufacturing the product is far more advanced than a lamination process.
Q. Has the fabric been tested?
A. A multitude of tests are available from independent laboratories. Crypton® is continually tested and copies of the test results are available upon request.
Q. Is Crypton® fire retardant?
A. There are many tests and fire codes that pertain to textiles. Crypton® has been tested for its intended use which is upholstery. Crypton® passes the normal upholstery tests which are UFAC and Cal 117.
Q. How can it be both breathable and a moisture barrier?
A. The test for breath-ability (ASTM-E96) measures the amount of vapor allowed to pass through the fabric. The pores formed in Crypton's® treatment are large enough to let water vapor pass through, but small enough to keep water out.
Q. Can you put Crypton® on any fabric?
A. No. This is not a coating or a treatment you spray on fabric. Fabrics must be specifically woven to be compatible with the process and ensure consistent performance. Crypton® becomes permanently encased in every single fiber of the product. (The fabric is immersed in a bath of our proprietary P385 formula and then cured.) Think of Crypton® like any other fabric choice such as silk, rayon or wool.
Q. Can you launder Crypton®?
A. Crypton® is not intended to go into a washing machine and dryer. It is easily cleaned with a powdered enzyme detergent and water in topical manner.
Q. Can you use bleach on Crypton®?
A. The product has been tested for cleaning effectiveness using one part bleach to four parts water. This is the least effective method to clean the fabric. The American Society for Cleaning and Restoration has also indicated that prolonged usage of pure bleach not properly removed will fade and harm the product. Germicidal detergents are far more effective and there is no potential for harming the fabric. In all instances, the cleaning agents should be completely removed.
Q. Is there anything that can harm Crypton®?
A. Yes. We do not recommend strong solvents to clean Crypton®. Not all solvents will harm the fabric, but to be totally safe, please use water based cleaners.
Q. Can you use Crypton® for outdoor applications?
A. Standard Crypton® will provide 40+ hours of fading resistance just like any other transfer printed product. Four hundred (400) hours are recommended for continual outdoor use. However, Crypton® has been used successfully in protected outdoor areas.
